Notes from Our Olive Grove

Summer '21: A Sustainable Future

Summer 2021 hero

Did you know that olive trees thrive in the warm summer months?

California’s dry summer months help create olives with extraordinary flavors that we capture during our Fall harvest. A “water-wise” crop, olive trees are one of the most water-efficient in the world, consuming two thirds less water than other popular California tree crops.

Corto® is committed to conserving the natural resources of planet earth. All of our olive groves are equipped with drip irrigation systems designed to accurately apply a precise amount of water to the root zone of the trees while reducing any unnecessary water lost to evaporation. We also plant our trees in a highly efficient, vineyard-style layout that not only allows us to harvest the olives at the peak of freshness in the Fall, but also contributes to a significant reduction in our carbon footprint. Here at the mill, our solar panels “harvest the sun” and provide energy to power 100% of our state-of-the-art mill in the hot summer months.

We are actively working hard to create a sustainable future for California agriculture. This is why we truly take pride in being a producer of amazingly flavorful and fresh Extra Virgin Olive Oil – traceable directly back to our local California farms – that also does right by the planet.

Until next season, Ciao!
