Notes from Our Olive Grove

Summer '22: Our Quest for Knowledge

Summer 2022 hero

Our Quest for Knowledge

Currently our olive groves are basking in the sun-drenched, long summer days that are optimal for olive trees and fruit growth.

This is our Field Director, Paul Busalacchi, and Agronomist, Filipa Grilo, in one of our California groves. Agronomists are typically educated and versed on soil science and crop production, but she is far from “typical”. Filipa provides the Corto growers with sound agronomic advice as well as significant olive growing expertise gained while earning her PhD in plant sciences and post-doctoral work in olive fruit production.

This summer, Paul and Filipa are focused on collecting leaf samples because they contain an abundance of useful information. After the leaves are tested in our state-of-the-art lab, Filipa will analyze the results to determine the nutrient profile and overall health of the trees. With this important information, she and Paul will tailor the grove’s care to optimize fruit quality and grove productivity for our annual Fall harvest.

Our passion for supporting chefs and inspiring them to create better dishes with fresh Extra Virgin Olive Oil is matched by our dedication to share cutting-edge knowledge with our growers, to ensure the best quality olive fruit. Only with the best olive fruit, harvested in the Fall, can we consistently produce our uniquely fresh, TRULY® 100% Extra Virgin Olive Oil for the most discerning of chefs.

Until next season, Ciao!
